My name is Elizabeth Bitner. I am
from Anderson, Indiana and have lived there all eighteen years of my
life. I am very excited and a little scared to be at IU. I am a triplet
and I also have an older sister so growing up I always had someone with
me wherever I went. Now that I’m here at IU by myself I no longer have
them to lean on so it’s a little scary but also exciting. Even though my
parents are divorced they always did a great job of getting along and
keeping the family together for us kids so I am close to both of my
parents. The support and encouragement my family has given me is a huge
reason why I have made it here today and I am sure it is will continue
to drive me throughout my college experience.
John Mellencamp - Small Town
I
connect well with this song because I grew up in a town that is not
very small in size but has a very small town feeling to it. This song
expresses a sort of love for the small town environment and that's
something I really connect with. I love the community of a small town
and how you really get to know the people within that community. Small
towns have a sense of welcoming and family that I love. I enjoy big
cities well enough but I grew up in a small town and that is really
where my heart is.
Sister Sledge - We are family
My family is a very tight knit
group of people as you probably gathered from my intro. On top of my
parents and my sisters I also have a very large extended family and we
are all very involved with each other. This song really represents a
bond with family and how they make you happy. It is a
great example of my relationship with my family. The line "I've got all
my sisters with me" resonates with me the most because my sisters are a
huge part of my life and that is something that always keeps me happy at
the end of the day.
Lord of the Dance
This song is important to me in
a couple of ways. Lord of the Dance is an Irish Catholic hymn and being
Catholic it has meaning to me. However this song is not just any
Catholic hymn its one which I am very familiar with. I went to a small
Catholic school from preschool to eighth grade and every year around the
season of Lent we would sing this song. Being raised Catholic and going
to a Catholic school for eleven years has made my religion a very
important part of my life. This song represents my beliefs and a very
important part of my growing up.
I like that - Shane Mack
This song is all about being happy with
what you have and not worrying about anything else and that really
describes me and my personality. I am a firm believer in seeing the good
in life. This song is all about living stress free and that is exactly
the kind of life I try to lead. I am a very laid back type of person and
I almost never stress out over anything. I believe as long as I have
the important things like a place to sleep, food to eat, and a family
that loves me then I have nothing to worry about and the rest will sort
its self out the way it is suppose to be.
Born this way - Lady Gaga
This song really represents my
values in life. I believe that everyone should be whoever they want to
be and should be accepted for everything they are and that is what this
song is all about. I am a firm believer in equality for all and
accepting and loving each other for everything that we are. This song
expresses my belief that everyone is different and that is what makes us
all special.
Hey Liz -
ReplyDeleteI can't believe someone remembers Sister Sledge! Flashback to a greater musical time, for sure. You did great here, really taking the assignment and pulling a lot out of it and giving it meaning in the frame of your songs. There is a nice Glee theme emerging between the last song you chose and your blog background, and that's great! Kudos.

Hey Liz!
ReplyDeleteI completely understand each and everyone of your song choices. You sound like a great person and I cannot wait to get to know you these next two weeks!
My favorite song of yours would have to be "I Like That" by Shane Mack. Even though we all face challenges in life, its important to focus on being happy and finding the silver lining in even the worst situations. We are all guilty of taking things for granted and this song makes me think of all the things I'm lucky to own and be a part of. Next time I'm complaining about some insignificant thing, I'll think of this song and the wonderful life I have!
See you soon!

I like that you are firm to your own beliefs and are able to represent them through your music. I also think it's great that you like to try to live a life without stress and be worry free. I think that's a huge thing that people need to get over. I also think it was really cool that you included the Sister Sledge song. It took me a little bit to figure out what the song was just by the song title but once I heard it, I immediately recognized it; how could you not?! I think you have some great songs and great diversity!
